Nick Kyrgios capped off a brilliant week by beating Alexander Zverev in the Mexican Open final to win his fifth ATP Tour singles title.
The Australian had claimed the scalps of 17-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal, third seed John Isner as well as Stan Wawrinka en route to the final.
And he completed the fairytale run by beating world No 3 Zverev 6-3, 6-4 in Saturday’s final in Acapulco.
Kyrgios broke in game four of the first set and after trading breaks in the first two games of the second set, he got his nose in front again in game five and then saw out the rest of the match.
“It’s an amazing feeling. I didn’t expect much at all today. I knew I was the underdog going in and that he’s playing great tennis,” the 23-year-old said after the match.
