Bianca Andreescu Makes It 16 Wins in a Row.

The Bianca Andreescu juggernaut rolls on as the US Open champion beat Elise Mertens at the China Open to win her 16th consecutive match.

The Canadian hasn’t lost a match since the Miami Open in March and her latest win helped her to reach the last 16 in Beijing.

The 19-year-old won the opening set before Mertens put up a fight in the second as the Belgian had a 4-2 lead, but Andreescu fought back to win 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in just under two hours.

She will face American qualifier Jennifer Brady for a place in the quarter-final after the world No 66 beat her compatriot Madison Keys 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

World No 1 Ashleigh Barty made life difficult for herself as she needed three sets to beat Saisai Zheng. The top seed’s 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 win earns her a quarter-final clash against Petra Kvitova after the seventh seed beat Belinda Bencic 6-3, 6-3.
